LINDENHURST FIRE DEPARTMENT
MAIN HOUSE REPORT RELEASED
Lindenhurst
Mayor Thomas Brennan has released an Engineering Report
regarding the Lindenhurst Fire Department Main House on South
Wellwood Avenue. The
report, conducted by ECG Engineering of Smithtown, NY, was
recently accepted by the Village Board and details structural
condition concerns about the Main House.
In releasing the study, the Mayor is inviting the public
to review the concerns raised and offer comments and suggestions
to him.
The Fire
Department Main House was originally built in 1923.
In addition to nearly 90 years of constant heavy duty
wear and tear, a major fire severally damaged the building in
1978. “We are now
seeing serious structural and mechanical issues that must be
addressed and will require the Village to make major decisions
regarding the future of this facility,” stated Mayor Brennan.
“I am asking for public review and input on this issue.
This will help the Village Board determine what course of
action will be taken to continue providing efficient and cost
effective fire and rescue service to the residents of
Lindenhurst.”
One example
of the structural problems with the Main House is the facade
facing Wellwood Avenue. The
engineers recommended a protective scaffolding be put in place
to guard against the potential of loose debris falling from the
roof. “There is no
immediate danger but the roof parapet facing Wellwood Avenue
does have some cracks
that we are concerned about.
The scaffolding is a precaution to ensure public
safety,” stated Mayor Brennan
The report
is available for public review at Village Hall and will be made
available on-line at www.villageoflindenhurst.com
in the near future. Contact
Village Hall for any questions.
