Home > Mayor Thomas A. Brennan's Message - Fall 2011
-

Dear Residents,

The leaves are falling and the days are growing shorter, so it’s obvious that autumn is upon us!  We survived Hurricane Irene although she did quite a bit of damage, especially to the Charles Cowan Village Marina.  We hope to receive the fair funding that the Federal Government is providing other communities across the East Coast, and we can begin the task of rebuilding it in time for the spring of 2012.

Our Department of Public Works did an excellent job during the storm and for several weeks afterwards, removing trees, debris and assisting in the overall cleanup in many locations throughout the Village.  The damage was intense enough that they will continue with the cleanup for several more weeks.

The Lindenhurst Rotary Club in conjunction with the Village of Lindenhurst held its Annual Octoberfest on the weekend of October 1st through 3rd.   The event appears to have been a huge success.

The BID has continued working with the merchants and landlords to fill the vacant stores.  The “grand” openings of La Villa Gaia Restaurant at 101 N. Wellwood Avenue as well as our own Sushi Restaurant, Kabuki at 183 S. Wellwood Avenue have brought great excitement and additional dining choices to the Village of Lindenhurst.  These two restaurants illustrate just how seriously both the Administration and the BID are with continuing the improvement and development of the Business District.

With the cooperation of the Business Improvement District (BID) and the Mayor’s Beautification Society, we have purchased additional Holiday Decorations!  Without our gazebo, we will make other arrangements in order to continue our tradition of adorning the Village Park with Holiday Decorations.  We are certain that the Village Park will be decorated with its usual Christmas tree, additional garland and lights, which will add to the celebration of the season.

During the next few weeks, there will be many community and local events.  Some are detailed below:

- The Chamber of Commerce will be holding its Annual Business Expo at Chateau La Mer, also on Wednesday, October 12th at 6:30 pm.  For information, please contact Tina at 225-2996.

- The Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst is holding its Annual Installation Dinner on Thursday, October 13th at 6:30 pm at Chateau La Mer.  For information, please contact Angela at 225-9688.

- On Saturday, October 22nd at 1:30 pm, please join us for our Annual Family Halloween extravaganza at the Railroad Depot Park located between South Broadway and South 3rd Street.  There will be games, surprises and hay rides for the children.  Hot dogs and soda will be available for purchase for $1 each!

- On Sunday, October 23rd at 6 pm, the Mayors Beautification Society presents its Annual Evening with the Stars at the Studio Theatre.  The play is a comedy called “Jake’s Women” with tickets available for $22.00 per person.  Refreshments including wine, cheeses and desserts will be served after the performance.  For information call Evelyn Chivvis at 631-226-0207.

- Also join us for the Halloween Luncheon at the Rainbow Senior Center on Wednesday, October 26th at 11 am.  The Center is located at 253 Buffalo Avenue.  Contact Barbara Poldino at the Rainbow Center at 957-7526 for more information.

- BACCA will hold its 2nd Annual Harvest Moon Mixer at the Chateau La Mer on Thursday, October 27th.  Tickets are priced at $50.00 p-p. The annual Owen H. Johnson Lifetime Arts Achievement Award will be also presented that evening.  For ticket information, call 631-991-3510.

Naturally, we continue to encourage our residents to shop and utilize the services in our downtown.  Shopping locally is also a great way to save on gas money.

Our administration continues to encourage residents to share their ideas, suggestions and concerns with us.  Our partnership with the various civic, service and community organizations have strengthened these last three years because we all have the same goal of keeping Lindenhurst as a great place to live, work and enjoy.

Along with the Board of Trustees, our Administrative staff and all the employees of the Village, we look forward to continue to serve the Village to the best of our abilities for the betterment of Lindenhurst.

Have a great autumn and we’ll see you at the various events that we have planned for the Holiday Season!

Warmest Regards,

Mayor Tom Brennan
